Request Comanche County Court Records

Comanche County court records live with the Clerk of the District Court, and that office is where most requests begin. The free Kansas case portal offers a quick first look. Still, what a browser shows is only a summary, not the full case file or a certified copy. For a true Comanche County court record, the courthouse terminal and the clerk matter most, since some eligible papers simply are not online. A precise request helps a lot. Name the case and the document you need, say whether certification matters, and direct the request to the right office for a district or municipal matter.

Comanche County Court Record Requests

The Comanche County Clerk of the District Court holds the files for district cases. Those span criminal, civil, family, probate, juvenile, traffic, and magistrate-division matters. County Clerk Bri Uhl keeps county administrative records, not District Court case files. A city clerk keeps that city's own municipal ordinance docket. Pick the channel that fits the item you need. Kansas Case Search shows eligible case information and some images. The courthouse terminal can surface public county documents the web portal does not carry. At the counter, the clerk handles inspection, routing of older files, copies, and certification. Remote requesters may phone, fax, mail, or send the official written KORA form. Confirm delivery details with the office first.

  1. Identify the case, court, record type, and date range. Note the exact case number if known.
  2. Check Kansas Case Search for public case information and available images.
  3. Use the public terminal or clerk counter at 201 S New York in Coldwater when the web record is incomplete.
  4. For a remote request, call 620-582-2182 before mailing or faxing the signed, specific request.
  5. Ask for the current estimate, payment method, delivery choice, and certification type before ordering.

Three Comanche County Record Products

In Comanche County, one phrase covers three different products. Picking the right one keeps a portal printout from being mistaken for an official court paper.

Register of action
The dated events index for a case, with brief activity descriptions, settings, and basic case facts.
Filed document
A complaint, petition, motion, order, journal entry, judgment, or other paper behind an event.
Certified copy
A copy produced and certified by the Clerk of the District Court for a formal use.

Rule 106B names the timeline a register of action. Most people just call it the docket, though neither label means every linked document can be reached online.

Kinds of Court Records

The Comanche County District Court keeps files across the Kansas portal categories. Those are Criminal, Civil, Family, and Probate or Mental Health. Each holds more specific local case types. Public records can include case information, pleadings, motions, hearing notices, journal entries, orders, and judgments. Criminal and traffic files may hold charging or citation material. They can also hold plea and disposition events and sentencing orders. Civil files can hold petitions, answers, service entries, motions, and judgments. Family, juvenile, guardianship, protection-order, warrant, and other sensitive materials face special limits. A visible case entry does not mean its filings can be opened online. Transcripts run through a separate court-reporter process. The court publishes no Comanche transcript rate or local request form.

Comanche County Kiosk-Only Records

Some Kansas court records never make it to the web. The Kansas district-records explanation draws a line between case information and the documents themselves. Case information is online. The documents are a different story. Under the September 2025 Smart Search guidance, public converted documents from the older case system are left off the web entirely. Head to a courthouse kiosk. Those same converted documents may be open to you.

Terminal-only rules reach further than most people expect. Juvenile-offender, domestic, guardianship, and guardianship-conservatorship documents can all sit behind that wall in Comanche County. Ask the clerk of court which lawful channel fits your case. A public terminal at the Comanche County courthouse is one option. No terminal, though, can unlock a sealed file or override a statutory restriction.

Filings enter the system through their own doorway, separate from anything a searcher sees. The official eFlex filing login is that authenticated portal. Attorneys and self-filers submit documents there, and those filings later appear on the case docket.

The official login page makes the split plain. eFlex is for filers, not a public Comanche County docket search.

Court Records: What They Contain

A Comanche County record can mix basic case data with a dated events index and selected filed documents. Treat the register as a timeline. It is not a full account of what happened in the case.

Case numberA Kansas number such as CM-2022-CV-000001, with CM identifying Comanche County.
Case dataCase type, file date, parties and roles, attorneys, assigned judge, and status when public.
Events indexBrief dated entries for filings, service, motions, settings, orders, disposition, and later activity.
Filed papersAvailable petitions, answers, motions, journal entries, judgments, or other allowed images.
Access limitsRedactions, absent images, sealed items, and case-type restrictions imposed by rule or law.

A short event label is not the signed order. When exact terms matter, request the underlying journal entry or judgment itself.

Confirm Comanche County Mailing Details

Two official county pages list different post-office boxes for the Comanche County District Court. The clerk page gives PO Box 722; the public-officials page gives PO Box 772. Confirm the box before mailing anything with payment or a return-copy request.

Before mailing: Call 620-582-2182 to confirm the correct box, current fee, accepted payment, and whether the clerk needs the original signed request.

Fax 620-582-2603 is published, but the office does not state whether fax is accepted or what a transmission might cost. No dedicated clerk email is listed either. A phone call settles both questions fast.

Copy Fees and Certification

A plain copy just reproduces the record. A certified copy carries the clerk's certification. Ask for the exact docket, journal entry, judgment, or filed paper, and say which form you need. Kansas Rule 1.03 allows reasonable copying and certification charges in district court, but Comanche County does not publish current amounts.

Comanche County KORA Form Choices

The Kansas Judicial Branch KORA form lets a requester name a county district court as custodian. Delivery choices are email, mail, in-person pickup, or fax. In the request box, write Comanche County District Court, the case number, the precise document, the date range, and any certification need. The form also asks for contact details, a signature and date, and a commercial-use certification under K.S.A. 45-230. It offers no upload or card-payment field. The custodian fills in the estimated reproduction cost. So contact the clerk about submission and payment before sending it.

Access Rules for Court Records

Court rules govern access, and so does the Kansas Open Records Act. A KORA request must be specific enough to locate a record. Even so, it cannot force open a sealed, exempt, or restricted court item.

Key access rules:

Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22 defines browser and courthouse-terminal access and lists excluded case and document classes.

Kansas Supreme Court Rule 106B defines the register of action, limits personal data and bulk access, and says a public-access copy is not official.

K.S.A. 45-215 through 45-223 governs inspection, copies, custodian responses, fees, and exemptions.

Adoption, juvenile, expunged, grand-jury, protection, treatment, guardianship, some family, presentence, warrant, and search-warrant materials may be absent or restricted. Ask the clerk which access rule applies. Trying another search field will not reach protected data.

Official Comanche County Copies

Tracking a Comanche County case with a portal PDF is fine for personal use. Rule 106B draws a hard line, though. It says a public-access copy is not an official court record. That holds no matter how it was pulled. So when some other court or agency demands a judgment, pin down the signed judgment or journal entry first. Then ask the Comanche County Clerk of the District Court for the certification that office provides.

State and federal records live in separate systems. Federal fees say nothing about what a Comanche County copy costs. The federal PACER fee page shows how that separate federal channel sets its own charges.

Save PACER for federal matters. For certified state district-court records, the Comanche County District Court clerk is still the source.
