Name-Based Case Searches
For a public Comanche County District Court lookup, use Kansas Case Search. Set Court to District. Pick Party Name and type the term. Then select Comanche County. The county filter matters most for common names. It keeps results on the local trial court instead of every participating Kansas district. A tooltip on the portal explains the last-name-first order. It also covers the optional middle-name detail and how partial matches work.
- Open the official portal and accept its terms or user agreement if that notice appears.
- Leave Court set to District and choose Party Name as the required Search Type.
- Enter the last name and first name as accurately as the court notice permits. Avoid extra sensitive data.
- Select Comanche County, then use Case Type or File Date filters if the result set is broad.
- Complete the human check, search, and confirm county, file year, case type, and case number before opening a result.
A name match in Comanche County only points to a possible case participant. It proves nothing by itself. Check the event history and any public orders before you draw conclusions about your own matter or a public case.

Five Comanche County Search Types
The public form offers five Comanche County search types. Pick the field that matches your source document. Older scripts mention more tools. The September 2025 Smart Search guide does too. Hidden or mode-dependent controls, though, should not be promised to a guest user.
- Case Number
- Best for a known district case because the number points to one file.
- Party Name
- Uses a person's name, with county and date filters to reduce false matches.
- Business Name
- Uses the registered business string; portal guidance describes a four-character minimum and wildcard support.
- Party As Business Name
- Uses party-name format when the business is entered as a party.
- Citation Number
- Uses the complete number printed on the ticket or citation.
Attorney, judge, warrant, license, and other labels that appear in legacy code do not prove the current guest form accepts them. Trust only the controls actually shown.
Case Number Searches
The cleanest Comanche County docket search starts with a full number. The current Enterprise Justice Odyssey model adds a county code. A safe format example is CM-2022-CR-000001. CM identifies Comanche, and 2022 is the four-digit filing year. CR is the case-type code. The last six digits give the sequence. Note the example is only a model, not a real case. An older number may look like 2022-CR-000001 without the county prefix. Keep the number exactly as printed. Then select Comanche County. Official Kansas tooltip examples show CR for criminal matters and CV for civil matters. Family, probate, and mental-health records use their own portal categories. Juvenile matters carry special access limits. If the first Comanche County try fails, compare every hyphen and digit against the notice. Try the old or new format only when the document supports it. A municipal citation may not be a district case number at all.
Comanche County Guest Search Access
The current portal says guests see basic case details. Expanded access stays limited to approved users. An official September 2025 guide says Smart Search users register. Those statements likely describe different access modes or a system transition. They do not justify promising anonymous document access or a registration-only search in every session. Use the live controls presented during your Comanche County search. The portal may ask you to accept terms, register, or pass a human check. Follow that prompt. Expanded stakeholder access under Kansas court rules is separate from ordinary public access. Creating an account alone does not claim it.
Comanche County Human Check
The live Kansas portal uses Cloudflare Turnstile. Before verification, the submit control reads “Human check…” and stays disabled. Finish the check in the browser. It is part of the normal public search workflow and must not be bypassed or automated.
Search blocked? Confirm the required search type and term, then complete the visible human check before pressing Search.
The portal may also show a terms overlay. Read it before using a Comanche County result. The case display assists public access, but it is not the official record. A reset button clears the form. It also clears the visible result container. The portal makes no public uptime promise, offers no export tool, states no refresh interval, and sets no result-count cap. Treat those silences as silences, not as facts to fill in.
Case Search Results Explained
A Comanche County result starts with basic identifying data. It then moves to the events index, also called the register of action. That record is a chronological list of dates. Each date comes with a short description. It can track filing, service, appearances, motions, settings, hearings, orders, disposition, and later activity. It is not an image of every paper in the court file.
| Case Number | The local identifier, often in a format such as CM-YYYY-CR-######. |
|---|---|
| Style or Parties | The case caption and public participant names, subject to access limits. |
| Case Type | The category, such as criminal, civil, family, or probate or mental health. |
| Filed Date | The date the court opened the case, useful for checking similar names. |
| Status | The current case state shown by the system, which should be read with later events. |
| Events | Dated activity and brief descriptions, with document links only where public and available. |
A blank Comanche County document link does not mean no filing exists. Online images depend on case type, court rules, conversion history, and the eCourt cutoff. When the index alone is not enough, ask the clerk for the filed record.
Comanche County Search Is Case-Based
Kansas Rule 106B treats public electronic access as a case-by-case service. It is not a right to bulk distribution. The current portal publishes no result limit. It offers no export button, no data refresh promise, and no uptime guarantee. A Comanche County docket search should therefore focus on locating and understanding a known matter. A broad result list is not a complete county data set. Narrow it with county, case type, and filing dates. Then verify the individual record before you rely on it. Never infer a missing case from an unstated cap. Never assume a downloaded list is an official product.
Filter Comanche County Case Results
Broad name results get easier to narrow. Bring facts from a court paper you already hold. Pick Comanche County first. From there, apply the Case Type filter and the File Date From or To fields. Case categories on the docket search right now include Criminal, Civil, Family, and Probate or Mental Health. A date of birth also shows on the case lookup screen. Use it only when you already know it and when the law allows that use.
One caution about the tools themselves. The official September 2025 guide describes a richer Smart Search mode with case status and judicial-officer fields. Yet the Comanche County guest form seen in 2026 does not show those controls. That gap just reflects an interface still changing. Trust the live screen rather than a hidden field. Check what the court actually offers each time you search.
When no Comanche County result comes back, change one supported factor at a time. Recheck the name spelling and the county. Then recheck the full case number, the filing range, and the case category. A city ordinance matter belongs with the city clerk, not the state docket search.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Comanche County posts no separate local web search of its own. Kansas Case Search serves as the statewide doorway for participating district and appellate records. Pick District and Comanche County. That statewide interface becomes your local district lookup. Internet results missing or thin? The clerk and the courthouse terminal form the county access layer.
| Kansas Public Portal | Comanche County Access |
|---|---|
| Searches eligible district or appellate case information | Clerk confirms the local court, schedule, archive, and request route |
| Free basic guest access, subject to terms and human check | Public courthouse terminal may show more public detail than the web |
| Shows register events and some document links | Clerk supplies certified copies and routes older records |
| Does not replace a municipal court search | City clerk handles its own ordinance docket |
Federal cases are different. Use PACER or the federal CM/ECF system for those. Kansas Case Search is not a federal docket service.
Three Comanche County Access Levels
A portal result, a courthouse terminal view, and a certified copy each answer a different need. The portal is the fastest public reference. The terminal covers eligible material missing from your browser, and a certified copy from the clerk bears the court's certification. A saved portal screen is no substitute.
- Start online for free public case information and the events index.
- Call the Comanche Clerk of the District Court at 620-582-2182 to determine whether the case is district, municipal, sealed, archived, or scheduled.
- Visit 201 S New York, Coldwater, and ask to use the courthouse public terminal for public material not shown online.
- Submit a specific written Kansas Open Records Act request when the custodian directs that route. Delivery choices on the state form include email, mail, pickup, and fax.
- Ask the clerk for a fee estimate and certification terms because no current Comanche copy-fee schedule was published.
The eFlex/Tybera login at Kansas Courts eFiling is not a public access level for Comanche County. It serves registered filing users who feed documents into the court system. Do not use it to hunt for another party's docket.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Public access in Comanche County has firm limits. Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22 restricts or excludes whole categories. Adoption is one. So are care and treatment, child in need of care, expunged matters, and grand jury records. Many juvenile, guardianship, custody, support, parentage, and protection-order records are restricted too. A seal or court order can block a case or a single document as well.
Rule 106B defines the public register of action. It shields personal identifiers and limits access case by case. Bulk distribution is barred. Switching search types defeats none of that. Approved expanded-access users hold a distinct role under Kansas rules. Their access is not a public shortcut.
A missing Comanche County result may have nothing to do with restriction at all. The case could be municipal or an older converted record. It could be a misspelled search term. Or it could be a document never posted online. Ask the clerk which channel fits, not for protected content.
Comanche County Portal Copies
A free Comanche County portal result is a public reference, not a certified court record. Rule 106B says plainly that a public-access copy is not official. A document viewer may offer PDF, image, HTML, or print controls. That adds convenience, not the clerk's certification.
Need an official copy? Ask the Clerk of the District Court for the filing, judgment, or journal entry. Say whether certification is required. Confirm the current charge before paying. Comanche County publishes no local fee table online.
Comanche County Pre-Odyssey Records
The 16th Judicial District joined the centralized eCourt system. That came in the September 2022 Track 4 rollout. The shift explains why an older Comanche County case can show thin detail online. The portal guide points users to a courthouse kiosk. It covers public information and documents never carried over from a prior system.
First, search with the Comanche County case number exactly as printed. For an old number without CM, select Comanche County. Next, call the clerk. Ask whether the record predates Odyssey conversion. Then use the public terminal or a written request as directed. A missing document image does not mean the document is missing.
A portal result may appear. But if you need an official filing, move to the Comanche County court case records request channel. Certification comes from the clerk, never from a free browser printout.
